"Um... Hello?..." you say, a bit confused.
You feel out of place too, actually. Because Alex is quite good-looking. He is tanned and muscular, but not overly so. More than you, sure, but not to outrageous degrees like the other guys around that are clearly more worthy of being gods on Instagram than you. You try to keep calm and see what this guy wants.
"I'm Alex," he says. "And I'd like to just get to know you better."
That's... surprising. And you cannot really believe your luck. A nice guy, here!... It might be a trick, yes, but you cannot stop giving Alex the benefit of the doubt. He might be a great guy and in fact, if it turns out he is a jerk, there would be always time to ditch him and not see him again for good. You tell Alex your name and he talks more.
"I saw you staring at the sea and waves. I like that too."
You nod and you tell him how you sense the waves are full of poetry and how you are fascinated by marine biology. You tell him about the books and journals you've read. Alex's blue eyes don't cloud over in boredom and the breeze ruffles his blonde hair. He recounts you the freedom he feels when swimming in the water, especially the salty water of seas and ocean. The guy is really interesting and very different from the others on the beach indeed. He tells you that too, flattering you to no end. He then takes you by the hand and you both dive beneath the waves, not caring about what others might think. But that is when something very strange starts to occur.
