Henry's friend was having a special birthday party, and since his friend had a special connection to the ChronoSwap people it was being partially funded by them and ChronoSwaps were being provided to everyone who got an invitation. Only issue at this point was Henry was 16 and the birthday specified you had to be somewhere between 5-8 to participate, and that failure to would mean he'd have to send the ChronoSwap back. So he'd have to give up 8-11 years.
While his dad hadn't given a yes or no himself his mom had put it well "I know I'm not getting younger... and I'd rather not see how badly I age in the next decade."
His older sister who was commuting to college said "I've got a date, and I'd rather not appear in my early thirties" That left either their new puppy, but Henry imagined it probably wouldn't be a good idea to test THAT or ask his little sister. She was 8 going on 9, and Henry felt odd about asking to put his little sister through puberty for this. Henry went looking through his contacts wondering if maybe someone was willing to hold onto a few years for the weekend, but most people he knew/trusted were already going on the birthday. He still asked some people if they knew anyone, but-
At the dinner party Henry coughed and said "I know I've asked everyone but Sally-"
"No" their mother said "She's going to be socializing with others from her school and it'd be for the best she remain the same age as them."
Henriette the older sister said "Could you split up the years? I could take a few"
"No," Henry sighed "It has a 48 hour cooldown between uses as a safety feature. I could see if I could get away with being 9 or 10, but that's still 6 whole years. I'm also trying to see if there's anyone knows someone, but..."
Their father cleared his throat silencing the discussion "How about a deal then. I'll take those years, and then... perhaps during the winter break your mother and I will give you twenty or so years apiece so we can have some fun being young again?" Henry felt less excited, being 36 for 4 days and 56 for 2 days. the 36 weren't that bad but could make hanging out with friends awkward, but 56 was going to suck. Then again the ChronoSwap was something hard to give up as well.
"Deal"
"We'll hold you to this son."
"I said, Deal"
"I'll take the years after we're done with dinner" said dinner got significantly quieter as the mood got dimmer and brighter to some. Their dad kinda on a stoic resolve, their mom wondering how well her husband would age and also a bit excited for their date in a few months, Henriette just wasn't sure if there was something to say, and Sally was a little disappointed. She was a bit of an introvert and was interested in the ChronoSwitch, and wondered how we'll she'd grow... not today it seemed. Having not talked much she finished her portion quickly.
"Can I be excused?" Sally asked
"Sure" their father said and Sally walked off... to the ChronoSwap. She wasn't going to do anything dumb with it. If she accidentally activated it then it'd get taken away by the company. But how it worked, or even how it was programmed. She was sure she could maybe take off that 48 hour cooldown, what was the worst that could happen? Not now though, but maybe if she could find a port and connect it to her hand-me down laptop later-
