And just as suddenly as Dan had come back into their lives, the three of them, the two parents and their cat-son, are whisked out of them.
They rematerialize in a large and expansive courtroom, ornately decorated with looming marble statues depicting various incarnations of the ethereal figure of Justice herself in various poses. The courtroom is filled to the brim, and it takes Dan only a short while to notice that these people are everybody who has ever had a part in Kat's life. He even spots his deceased grandparents, all four of them, sitting together. Kat is seated at a table just in front of Dan, with her back faced to him. She is dressed in a black-and-white striped prison uniform and is shackled tightly to the floor. Presumably the small green goblin in a business suit seated next to her is her attorney.
"All rise for the honorable Judge Lucidicus the Wise, presiding over today's proceedings!" The bailiff, who has notably pointed ears, says, and everyone rises. Dan's mother holds him in her arms so he can see.
The judge enters, a large, imposing figure of impossible proportions. Ten feet tall at the least, with long, pointed ears and and pointed teeth protruding from his lower lip. Across his nosebridge rests a small pair of spectacles. He takes his seat at the podium and looks over a small file.
"Katherine Singleton. Most grievous charges are leveled upon thee on this day. Dost thou understand them?" His voice is low and gravelly, but project both authority and dignity.
"I do, your honor." She answers.
"Then how is it, young witch, that thou dost plea?"
