"The Defense calls Dr. Adrian Werther." The little goblin states, and with a puff of smoke, a distinguished looking middle aged man is seated at the witness stand.
"Dr. Werther," the goblin begins, floating back towards the witness stand, "You're a world-renowed expert on magic-induced psychosis. Please tell the jury what that is."
"Magic-induced psychosis is the sudden onset of dementia at the acquring of magical ability." The doctor answers.
"Having examined young Katherine here, would you say that it's possible that she suffered from MIP when she killed her brother?"
"I'd say more than that. I'd say it's probable, or even definite."
"Probable or definite, you say? No further questions."
The prosecutor stands up, and clears his throat. "Dr. Werther, you claim to be an expert, but you've overlooked something."
"I doubt that," he answers smugly.
"1624, Salem Massachusets. Diagnosed MIP in one Abigail Theodora caused her to not only incinerate her best friends, but set a large sector of the forest on fire, giving the impression to the townsfolk that satanic ritual and sacrifice was being practiced."
"Yes, I know that."
"1865 - MIP in one Thomas Freeman, former slave, caused twelve white girls to be transformed into cows and thus brought about his lynching."
"I'm sorry, I don't see where this is going."
"Sir, I have gone through five hundred casefiles of MIP and every single one had the sufferer not only enacting his or her wrath on groups of people, but entirely at random. Would you say this is true of Katherine?"
"No, I wouldn't."
"What would you say of Katherine's so-called MIP?"
"It was hostile. Directed at one single person."
"Her brother Daniel."
"Yes."
"Furthermore, while she magically transformed him into a humanoid lobster, she used non-magical means to boil him alive and serve him as dinner to her own parents."
"Yes."
"So, she has MIP, that doesn't act like MIP. Doesn't look like MIP. Doesn't even sound like MIP when it's described. What's that old saying? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck..."
"Then it must be a duck."
"Surely, the converse is true. No further questions."
