And so the trial continues, and all along things are going very poorly for Kat. There aren't really very many people who can act as reliable character witnesses, and nobody witnessed the murder of Daniel Singleton... except for one person, who just so happens to no longer be a person.
"And now, as is tradition for trials of this magnitude, 'tis time for us to hear from the formerly deceased." Judge Lucidicus announces. "Daniel, you may now say your piece."
Dan nods to his mother before hopping off her lap and running up to the witness stand, leaping up to the bench and sitting up by the microphone.
"Um... h-hello..." he says, leaning up so he can speak into the mic. "M-my name is Daniel, and... just yesterday, my sister turned me into a lobster-person and boiled me alive. While I'm grateful for this second chance at life, I still feel cheated... that she stole my life away from me. For no reason other than having been born. Katherine," he shifts his attention directly to her, "I love you. You're my sister, and despite the fact that you've always hated me, I still love you. Which is why for your own sake, I hope you find justice here. I hope you, the jury, finds my sister guilty of murdering me, so she can face the punishment allotted for that murder and become a better person."
"Shut up!" Kat shouts, jumping to her feet. "You just want to see me squirm, don't you?! You wanna see me suffer for what I've done and you won't be satisfied unless I do! Well I can't help it! I was sick! And without the magic, the sickness is gone!"
"You can lie to them, Kat, but you can't lie to me. You didn't kill me because of sickness and we both know it. Wait... you just told a lie. How did you do that?"
"A lie?!" Lucidicus booms. "Bailiff, open yonder witch's shirt!"
The bailiff does as he is ordered, and lo and behold, there is a small gold pendant hanging about her neck.
"A Goblin's Purjury Pendant! I might have suspected such a trick with a goblin as thy attorney. Jury, thy work doth be concluded! Such a talisman allows full jurisdiction of sentencing and punishment solely unto me! Katherine Singleton! I find thee guilty, on one count of murder and on one count of attempting to defraud mine own court! That charge applies equally to thy attorney, who doubtlessly provided thee with thy trinket. And as thus, sentencing must be particularly harsh. Katherine, I sentence thee to..."
