“Mermaid Con.” Read the digital sign by the entrance of the convention center. “Three days only, get everything you could ever want to become the mermaid or merman of your dreams. Starts tomorrow doors open 9 am.”
“Do people actually show up for stuff like this?” inquired a new worker as he looked up at the sign as his trainer pulled the golf cart to a stop by the main entrance.
“Yep.” Confirmed an older one as he got out of the cart. “They had this mermaid convention last year and had a couple of thousand people each day show up.”
“Really thousands?” inquired the new worker as the two of them changed the trash cans outside the convention center.
“Yes, conventions like these bring out the freaks. Wait until you see the crazies which show up for comic conventions.” Confirmed the older worker as they tossed the bag of trash into the back of their golf cart. “These mermaid people are actually one the mild side, sure you will see people trying on tails which is weird but they aren’t trying to convert you to their faith like some of the religious groups who rent out the space.”
“I guess, still seams weird.” Added the trainee as they moved the cart to the next trash can they had to empty.
Little did they know that this convention center, one filled with mermaid and merman branded items ranging from home décor to custom made tails would be the site of the first confirmed outbreak of the mermaid virus.
