As the other kids shouted and hugged Mr. Thomson, Jane lagged behind, her eyes locked on the phone.
In a moment of distraction, when Sophia was busy greeting the other kids, Jane made a quick dash for the pocket. Her chubby little fingers managed to slip inside and grab the phone without anyone noticing. She quickly hid it behind her back and tried to look nonchalant.
As Sophia let the kids out of the play area, Jane pretended to run to Mr. Thomson like the others. But instead, she dodged behind a stack of blocks and quickly snatched a glance at the phone. Her heart sank as she opened the app and saw the sentence: "Jane iz aah tottet usng pon"
Jane's eyes widened as she tried to read the sentence, but the words blurred together. She strained her toddler brain, trying to decipher the letters, but it was no use. Panic set in as she realized she couldn't read well enough to fix her situation.
Undeterred, Jane tried to generate sentences and edit them as best she could, hoping for the best. She changed words randomly and, without realizing it, ended up altering some things. But Jane herself remained unchanged.
Just as she was experimenting with the app again, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Jane quickly hid the phone inside a toy box and pretended to play with a nearby toy. Soon, Jane turned to see who was approaching and was shocked by what she saw. It was Mr. Thompson, but not the same as always. She was now a tall, strong woman, wearing a business suit and with long, styled hair.
Mrs. Thompson scooped her up in strong arms, and Jane found herself looking up at the now tall, smiling woman. "Time to go home, sweetie!" she cooed. As Jane was carried out of the daycare, she caught a glimpse of her "sisters", who were now little girls like her.
Mrs. Thompson buckled Jane into a child seat in a huge van and gave her a pacifier. Jane sucked on it contentedly, but her mind was racing. Jane happily sucked on her pacifier while her sisters continued to bounce and talk happily to each other in their seats.
The van started moving, and Jane gazed out the window, her pacifier clenched between her teeth. She had a long day ahead of her, but she was determined to find a way back to her normal life. She just had to wait until her next day at daycare.
