As he picked up the toy hatchett, Mark felt a little dizzy and disoriented. Shaking his head to clear it, he felt way too much hair flopping around the sides of his head, and also realized he was looking at Sei's belly.
Bewildered, he looked down. The thin, dark body of an almost naked boy met his eyes. He had some sort of crude loincloth, and some soft leather slippers with beads on them. Other than that his child's body was totally exposed. "Sei! What happened? I'm a kid!"
He looked up at his friend in panic, and saw that Sei was backing away from him in obvious horror. "Sei, it's me! Mark!" At least, that's what he thought he was saying. Then he realized that the sounds coming out of his mouth were not matching up to what he was thinking in his head. They were clipped and gutteral, a different language. He tried to talk again. "Sei, do you understand me?" It was obvious the now much-older boy did not.
There was a dusty mirror ont he far wall, and he stumbled over to look at himself. A ten or eleven year-old Cherokee boy stared back at him with dark eyes, holding a crude toy hatchett. Somehow, the toy had transformed him into a real Indian child!
