Janessa's breath caught in her throat. The guest sitting at the table was the most handsome man she had ever seen! He was tall, muscular, dreamy... With the blond hair of a witch. Not that Janessa cared.
"Sir Humphert, this is my good friend and lady-in-waiting, Janessa," Lilia said brightly. Janessa instinctively curtsied. Sir Humphert got up from the table. He took Janessa's perfectly manicured hand and kissed it.
"Enchanted."
"Um, what- what brings you here, sir?" Janessa asked nervously. Lilia beamed at her.
"Sir Humphert is the head knight of the King's forces," she whispered. "He is kind, gentle, and comes from a wealthy family with a castle close by. He also happens to be one of the men we contacted to be a match for you. He is here to begin courtship."
Begin courtship?! No, this couldn't- But then Janessa was looking in Humphert's eyes, and she melted. She smiled and let him lead her to the table.
During breakfast, Janessa found herself more and more drawn to Humphert. He wasn't just handsome, he was well-spoken and charming. Everything she had wanted from Antyny, but didn't get. Antyny had to rely on magic to win her. Humphert just had to be himself.
Janessa could feel herself falling for him already.
