"What?" Ty exclaimed. "After the problems that caused?"
"Believe me, I've considered that, before deciding to ask you," Mark said.
"Dad, when I saw what that had done to June, I was in a panic!" Ty said. "You were due home in only a few minutes, and I thought if you saw the state June was in, you'd blow a gasket."
"You weren't wrong, Ty," Mark admitted. "I probably would have been irate."
"Well, why on Earth would you want me to give her back the ability to do that? I thought you agreed that my taking away that ability was in June's best interest."
"Ty, I know you did it to protect June. I'm not disputing that, and June understands it too," Mark said. "But Ty, June is _very_ unhappy about it. I think you and I, not having had her experiences, can't actually understand how much it means to her. She says she thinks that with practice, she can become better at controlling herself while having one or both machines merged into herself. Maybe she can, and maybe not, but she wants to try.
"I know you don't want her to be unhappy, any more than I do. And neither of us want her to be harmed. But I think that if you're willing to consider giving her that ability again, that I can convince her to only do it when I'm present, and able to take care of her, and provide her with any assistance she needs under those conditions. And I think she'll also agree to be more willing to unmerge, if I ask her to. If _either_ of us asks her to. I think we can let her have the transformations she wants, without any danger to herself."
"I'm still quite surprised by this request," Ty said, "but I can see that you've given it a lot of careful thought. If she agrees to the conditions you've outlined, then I'll give her back that ability. But not the ability to go back to machine form, if she has both machines merged into her human form. That was a disaster! If she wants to transform back to machine form, and has both machines merged into her human form, she'll have to unmerge one first."
"I'm sure she'll be fine with that," Mark said. "She obviously doesn't want to do anything that she knows will harm herself.
"Shall I go get her, and bring her to your room, so that the three of us can discuss it?", Mark asked.
"Of course," said Ty. They stood, and Mark left Ty's bedroom to get June.
