This Could Become Interesting

added by LittleBoy 14 hours ago O

Brian grins, “this could be interesting,” he says to himself before tapping on the screen of his phone, which causes Max to sniff the hand of the cop, the information, that pops up on the screen of Brian’s phone are:

- authority
- kind
- dog lover and experienced in caring for and training dogs

Brian smirks as he uses the controls to make Max wag his tail and let out an excited bark before having him walk towards the cop car.

“Looks like he wants to come with us,” Trevor says.

Mandy smiles, “and he seems to know that he can trust you”.

Trevor smiles as he and Mandy follow the dog back to the vehicle, “dogs are smart creatures,” he says, “they know who to trust and who not to trust. They are far better in judging humans than humans”.

Mandy nods, “you know,” she says, “he kind of reminds me of Orion”.

“Yeah,” Trevor says, his voice sounding less happy.

“Sorry,” Mandy says, “I… I forgot you have lost him a week ago”.

“It’s alright,” Trevor says, “I know Orion is watching over me,” he then smiles as he looks up at the stars.

By now, the man in black had been driven to the detention center, and when Mandy and Trevor arrive at their vehicle, Trevor opens the trunk and the dog jumps in without hesitation, soon the three of them are on their way to see the vets.

“Luckily there is an emergency dog clinic which is open 24/7,” Trevor says, “and it’s just 30 minutes from here”.

“What should we do if the dog is not chipped,” Mandy asks.

Trevor is silent for a while, watching the dog lying in the trunk, “not sure yet,” he then says, “we’ll have to see”.

After a 30 minute drive, they arrive at the vet and head straight for the counter, “how can I help you, officers,” a young woman asks.

“We found this dog,” Trevor says, “he actually helped us to catch a murderer. At first we thought it was a stray, however, its fur is to clean and neat, and it seems to have some police dog training”.

“Alright, so you’d like for us to check if it could be an escaped pet?”

Trevor nods, “correct,” he says.

“Then follow me,” the young woman says, getting to her feet and leading the cops and the dog into an examination room, “I’ll get a nurse, please wait here,” with that the young lady closes the door.

Trevor looks down at the dog who is sniffing around the room, tail wagging, “he seems to have no negative experiences with vets,” Trevor says.

Mandy nods, “yeah”.

The door opens and a woman wearing a blue gown enters, “hello officers,” she says, her voice warm and friendly, “so, you’d like me to check the dog you found?”

The two cops nod, “yeah,” they say.

“Alright,” she then turns to the dog, “hey buddy, can you jump on the table for me,” she asks, smiling as she pats the metal table in the center of the room.

Brian causes Max to jump up on the table.

“Wow, he sure is well trained,” the nurse says.

“Yeah, now you know why we’d like for you to check if he is chipped,” Trevor says, “just a side question… what will happen if he is not chipped”.

“If he’s not chipped, he’ll be put on a list of missing pets, if no one comes forward within a week, he’ll be put up for adoption,” the nurse explains.

“Well… let’s hope then that he is chipped,” Trevor says.

The nurse takes out a small device which she holds against the dog’s neck, moving it around, her face falling into a frown, “no chip,” she then says.

“Damn it,” Trevor says.

The nurse puts the device down and starts to examine the dog, listening to its heart and lungs, taking temperature, checking the teeth and doing other check ups before giving the dog vaccination.

“He is one healthy dog,” the nurse says.

“So, what now,” Trevor asks.

“Well, only two options,” the nurse says, “either the dog will be taken to a shelter and put on a missing pet list, and if no one comes forward, it will be put up for adoption”.

Trevor frowns, “what is the other option?”

The nurse looks at Trevor, who is looking at the dog, “well, the only other option would be, I could chip the dog and register it, putting either one of you as the owner into the system”.

“That’s possible,” the officers ask.

The nurse nods, “yes, the choice is yours,” she says, “either have the dog put away into a small cage for at least two months, OR become the rightful owner. I personally prefer the latter”.

Trevor looks at the dog, who just calmly lies on the table, panting. The cop feels a hand on his shoulder and turns to see Mandy looking at him, “I can see the look in your eyes,” she says, “maybe… you were meant to meet”.
