As the sisters were chatting, Mary had been idly scratching an itch behind her ear. Listening to Sally on the telephone was becoming strange...as if her voice was temporarily distorting and then coming back to normal. Mary tried shaking her head. Maybe her ears needed to pop or something like that. That's when she felt something slap the side of her face.
"I'm sorry, Sally, could you hang on a second?" Mary asked, putting the phone down. She brought both hands up to her ears and felt the change she had feared. They were longer now, and floppy. They were so long she could bring the tips around the front of her face to look at them. They were distinct cow's ears, covered in white fur.
Mary picked the phone back up. "Sally? Would you like to come over for a while? I'd like to show you something."
