The wirrn did not need another female.Thus they had chosen male larvae to smear slime all over Miss Peabody,Nathan and John.The two boys would come out of this as male wirrn,but Miss Peabody was about to get a sex change.
After Jan 31 1987 they'd figured out how the Game of Change worked and some human scientists volunteered to become the queens mates.The 6 original queens had quicly discovered in 1985 that the game couldn't restore their humanity and in 1986 they found out it couldn't restore their gender either.
By Jan 31 1987 they'd already figured out the proper procedure for a newborn wirrn's birth and when nathan was strapped into the table that procedure kicked into action.
They pulled the curtain around his bed and brought in pails of warm water and lots and lots of towels.It would be another day before the witching hour rolled around again,so in the meantime they tried to make him as comfortable as they could.They cut off his clothing and rubbed the slime deeper into his skin.
Four hours after its application,the slime began taking hold.Being wasps,the slime the wirrn produced tended to paralyze the host up till the moment of birth,so they carefully noted that Nathan was becoming more rigid.They gave him a needle to strengthen his heart and waited.
