The first few days are a blur. No one seems to know that you used to be human. No one gives you any indication that this nightmare will end. You spend your time on the shore at the end of the enclosure watching the people pass by, hoping that one of them will recognize you as human. Every once in a while a curious kid will get close to you, but then be retrieved by their parent and scolded for getting to close the the dangerous animal.
Yes, animal. That is your new identity. You wish you could cry for you lost humanity, but you can't even do that. The scales... the tail... the dark beady eyes... nothing remains of you that was once human.
And so the last few days you've just sat there feeling sorry for yourself. You haven't even eaten any the chicken parts they feed you. Not like you would want to even on a happy day. But today will be different.
Ever since this morning one particularly large alligator has taken offense at you. You don't know why, but ever once in a while it'll surface and hiss angrilly at you. Maybe he's mad you stole his spot, but you don't care. Maybe he'll just kill you and finally put you out of your misery.
And then suddenly he lunges out of the water, snatches you by the tail, and drags you in towards the water. You squirm in panic, but are too small and tired to put up much of a fight. Soon you're totally submerged in the water, its bigger body having you pinned down. "So this is how I'm going to die," you think to yourself, praying that he'll at least make it quick and painless.
But that end doesn't come.
And as the male gator positions himself against you and you feel something pushing inside the slit beneath your tail, that's when you realize it.
Your humanity isn't the only thing you've lost...
