You decide to transform the man with the Book of Beast. It's better than killing him, and if you pick a smaller animal, he should be incapable of putting up to much of a fight.
You pull out the Book of Beast, point at the man, and use Beast Shape spell. In a cloud of smoke, the man is replaced by rabbit. That should be relatively harmless.
Then, you pick up the book the man had dropped when you first kicked him.
The Book of Transmutation
I. Alter Material
This spell allows you to alter a material. For example, you can transform dirt to mud, wood to cement, and other similar things. However, you can not transform a complete object into another, just the material it is made of. The command word is alter, and you must point at a target and concentrate on what you wish to change it into. The spell requires only a mild amount of energy.
II. Alter Object
This allows you to change on object into another, even if it is completely unrelated. Sword into a gun, a baseball into a computer, all kinds of things. It requires a little to a large amount of energy based on how similar the object is you are attempting to transform the initial object into. To cast the spell, say the command word 'object' while focusing on what you wish to transform the initial object into.
III. Liquidfication
This spell instantly turns any solid object into liquid. To cast the spell, say the command word 'liquid' while pointing at the target. Most objects will be destroyed through this spell, and can not be restored to their original form easily. This spell requires a mild amount of energy.
IV. Solidification
This spell allows the caster to transform a gas or a liquid into a solid. It does not become any paticular object when solidified but merely a giant block of the initial material. The spell is cast by using the command word 'solid' and pointing at the center of the area you wish to solidify air or liquid. It requires a mild amount of energy.
V. Gasification
This spell allows the caster to transform a solid into a gas, which basically vaporizes the object. Just point at the object, and use the command word 'gas' to transform the object. The object will be lost forever. The spell requires a large amount of energy to use.
VI. Plasma Energy
This spell allows you to change either a solid, liquid, or gas into plasma. As a result, the spell can be deadly for those who come in contact with the results. Point at what you wish to transform and use the command word 'plasma'. It requires a large amount of energy to use.
VII. Combine Objects
This spell allows you to combine two objects into one. The effects of what will happen are unknown until you try it. To cast the spell, put the two objects next to each other, and use the command word 'combine'. This spell requires an average amount of energy.
VIII. Enhance Creature
This spell is a transmutation spell created for the use on living creatures. It is used to alter small parts of them for various uses. Examples might use to switch lnugs out for gills, or for someone expecting to go into combat to change their skin into stone. The spell requires an average amount of energy and is used with the command word 'enhance' while pointing at the target and focussing on the enhancement. If no target is selected, then you will be the target of the spell.
IX. Petrify Creature
This spell allows you to petrify a living creature. With the spell, the target will look like a statue of their original self. This spell can be used to petrify a target as stone, glass, gold, silver, and any other solid material. It requires a large amount of energy to cast. To cast the spell, point at a target, and use the command word 'petrify'. If no target is selected, the caster will petrify himself.
X. Inanimate Animate
This spell allows you to transform a living creature into any inanimate object. The object they are transformed into could be anything, clothing, weapon, or even dishes. To cast the spell point at a target and use the command word 'inanimate' while focussing on what object you wish to turn the target into. If no target is selected the caster will suffer the effects of his own spell. This spell requires an incredible amount of energy.
You now have the Book of Transmutation, which is now the fourth book in your collection. There are only three more to go. And Ruby has two of them. You think about asking her for the books, then, the books you have begin to glow.
All the books fly out of your bag, and rotate in a circle around you. They glow, and flip to blank pages, as new words start to appear in each of the books.

XV. Rust
Though the game of the spell may sound like it only effects metal. It will effect all materials. This spell, will allow one to cause a material to age and decade rapidly, while leaving all other materials in the object unharmed. The spell's command word is rust. To use this spell, point at the target object, speak the command word, and mentally focus on the material you wish to age and decay. This spell requires a mild amount of energy.
XVI. Renew
This spell is the opposite of rust. It will be regress and renew a material in an object, restoring it either to the condition of new or raw materials. The command word is 'renew.' To use the spell, point at the target, and speak the command word, while focusing on the material you wish to renew in your mind. This spell requires a mild amount of energy.

XV. Create Chimera
This spell allows the caster to combine two or more animals into one. The animals must be standing next to each other at the time. To use the spell, point at both animals, and speak the command word 'chimera'. The animals will combine into one, and usually have a heightened intelligience beyond that of both animals. The spell requires an average amount of energy to cast. If no target is selected, and an animal is close by, you will end up as part of a chimera with that animal. Humans count as animals for this spell.
XVI. Chimera Shape
This spell allows the caster to transform himself or another subject into a combination of two or more animals. The only condition to meet, is the caster must be able to visualize the combination in their mind. The command words for this spell are 'chimera shape'. To cast the spell, point at the target, and speak the command words, while keeping a detailed mental picture of the combination of the two creatures in your head. If no target is selected, you will be transformed. This spell requires a large amount of energy.
The Book of Body
XV. Elemental Body
This spell allows one to change a body or most of it into the element of their choice from earth, water, air, and fire. When used with earth, the subjects skin will change to stone, making them immune to most physical attempts to harm them. When used with water, most physical objects will go through them, and they will be able to slip through cracks, travel quickly through bodies ofw ater. When used with air, they become completely imaterial, and can even fly, and not be harmed physically in any way. When used with fire, they will ignite on fire, without harming themselves, but anyone or anything that comes in contact with them will be burnt. Note, while using fire elemental, if the fire is put out, the transformed one will die. To end the spell, cast the spell without selecting an element. To cast the spell, concentrate on the element, and speak the command word 'element' while pointing at the target. If no target is selected, you become the target. This spell requires a large amount of energy.
XVI. Biology Remix
This frightening spell, changes the biology of how a body works. For example, the spell could be used, to change a body instead of having blood and organs inside of them, it may be chocolate and cookies. And though this spell can produce some downright creepy effects, such as an anthropomorphic icecream cone, it's effects are completely nonlethal no matter what effects you use. The command word is 'biology'. To use the spell, point at a target and use the command wrod, while picturing what you want to change. If no target is selected, you become the target. This spell requires an average amount of energy.

XI. Youthful Restoration
This spell does not change the age of a body. Instead it just repairs damage done to a body while ageing. For example, it make make wrinkles or scars vanish, but will not make the target any younger. To use the spell, speak the command word 'youthful' and point at the target. If no target is selected, you become the target. This spell requires a mild amount of energy.
XII. Ageful Wearing
This spell accelerates the effects of damage due to ageing on a body. Used on someone extremely youthful, it can cause them to gain wrinkles, unsightly features, and make them look several years older than they are without actually making them older. The command word is 'ageful' and to cast the spell just point at the target and speak the command word. If no target is selected, you will become the target. The spell requires a mild amount of energy.
XIII. Feral Endurance
This spell when used on a human, will modify them as well as increase their endurance. Their skin will become tougher, nails and teeth sharper, and generally give them a more wild and feral appearance. This spell however does not increase any of these attributes beyond that of what is physically possible. The spells use is primarily for wilderness survival, but may have other uses. The commmand word is 'feral'. To use the spell, speak the command word, and point at the target. If no target is selected, you become the target.
XIV. Undeath
This spell allows one to raise animals rather they be beast or human as undead creatures. They will either transform into zombies or skeletons, depending on how much of their body is left at the time. To use this spell, speak the command word 'undeath' while standing over the corpse. Warning, do not use in a graveyard. Seriously don't do it. The command word is 'undeath'. It requires a large amount of energy.
XV. Animation
This spell brings an inanimate object to life. Though it will lack most biological factors, it will be capable of moving, talking, breathing, and showing emotions. Though, the object will have no mind of its own. The exception, is to those who have been transformed into an object, and then animated, will have their own mind. To cast the spell, speak the command word 'animation' while pointing at the object. This spell requires an average amount of energy.
XVI. Incapitation
This spell makes a body incapable of moving. They will still be alive, and and will still die if mortally wounded, but will be unable to move their body at all. The command word is 'incapacitate'. To cast the spell, speak the command word, and point at a target. If no target is selected, you become the target. This spell requires an average amount of energy.
The books stop glowing and fall to the floor. You quickly gather them up and put them in your bag.
"That was, interesting." Ruby watches as you pick up the books. "I suppose if I gave you my books, the same thing would happen."
"Yes.... Are you going to?" You ask.
"Not yet." She replies.
"So that means, you will eventually?" You ask hopefully.
"Maybe." She signs. "Anyways, that's not what I came here for."
"Why are you here?" You ask. "I got the letter, and explained what happened from there."
".... Well, I got a letter as well. It mostly just said something about having some book, the end of the world, joining an empire, and how powerful some guy is. I naturally came to kick his ass. Sending me spam like that...."
"Excuse me!" John speaks up. "Right, I know I only had one book, and don't even have that anymore. But, one I have no idea what you guys are going on about evil empires and traps, and two, isn't there still some big bad guy to get?"
"You're right." You think maybe John isn't quite as stupid as he comes off. "Alright, well, he can't see us now, which is why we're all still alive. However, we still don't know where in this mansion if anywhere he is. So... Lets see. We could split up, but we have no way of communicating with each other. Or, it could be safer to stay togethor, except then one trap could take us all out."
