Shanna nudged Katie and replied under her breath, "If we see the classic Jack moves, Paul will be the least of his worries."
"Yeah," Katie said as the guys walked over to the quartet of costumed women. "This should be amusing."
They both watched Jack and Paul approach the women, and Katie had to snicker as she saw the exaggerated poses Jack did as he attempted to chat them up.
"Oh geez," Shanna quipped. "That's just painful to see."
"He goes with what he knows," Katie replied.
Oddly enough, the women didn't seem to be speaking, at least that Katie or Shanna could see. Granted, the other three still had their hoods on, but the black-haired one maintained her stony expression the entire time Jack made his case.
Then, as if on cue, all four started to walk away from Jack and Paul. Jack gave his friend a nasty look and smacked him on the back of the head. Paul's confused expression said that he hadn't really done anything to earn Jack's ire.
"Doesn't look like it went well," Katie said.
"Are you honestly surprised? Poor Paul."
"Yeah, Jack always blames Paul."
It was then that they realized that the four women were actually headed towards them, the black-haired one's gaze fixed upon them intently. Shanna shivered again at the intensity of it, before noting that Katie seemed to have reacted similarly.
Slowly, the women walked up to them and handed them both one of the heavy beer steins they were carrying.
"On the house," the unhooded one said enigmatically, "with our compliments... and our sympathies."
"Uhm... thanks," a confused Katie replied.
"Enjoy Witches' Woods." The lead woman said simply, before all four once again walked away nearly perfectly in-step.
Sandra held up her stein and opened the lid for a sniff before shrugging and taking a swig. It was beer, but she tasted a hint of anise and juniper, as well as some other flavors she couldn't quite taste.
"Spice beer," she said to Katie. "Not bad." She took another drink and her friend did likewise.
"Yeah, that's pretty tasty. Nice of them."
"Aw man," came a familiar male voice. "I don't believe it! That's horseshit!"
"Geeze dude, calm down." Paul was clearly trying to console his friend.
"Seriously, they don't say a word the whole time I'm talking to them and then they go and give Shanna beer? I knew they had to be lesbians."
"Whatever, man. Just forget about it."
Katie and Shanna shared a chuckle.
"Don't worry Jack," Katie said after she stopped laughing. "They're with the staff. They're probably just supposed to mingle and get people interested in this spice beer."
"Well is it any good? Can I try some?" Paul asked.
"Get your own," Shanna quipped with a smirk.
