Jared ran for a long time, deeper and deeper into the woods. At some point, she knew that she'd crossed into the national park and reletive safty. They didn't allow hunting in this area. As long as she stayed clear of poachers, she'd be safe.
She kept moving all though the night, stopping only to rest, eat or drink. By dawn, she was exhausted. She walked under the brightening sky until she found a spot covered by bushes to lay down in and rest. Her body had barley touched the ground when she fell asleep.

Jared woke hours later with a start, and for a moment couldn't remember where she was. A quick look at her cloven hoof brought back all the memories. She laid her head back down and sighed. What was she going to do? She was miles from her old life, the shack where the medallion was hidden was at least 10 miles away. She felt a bit uncomfortable being that far from it, but there wasn't much choice. If she'd stayed near home, she'd probebly have ended up on a freinds dinner table.
Thinking, she tried to recall all that she knew about deer. Jared knew that they usually gave birth in the spring, so she just needed to last the winter. It wasn't going to be easy, but she could do it. Her body was young and healthy, strong enough to get through the coming months if she started packing on the weight. Her biggest worry was that she might not find enough food to survive. There weren't a lot of predetors in these parts, wolves were long gone. There might be bears or mountain lions but she was hopeful she could avoid them.
Absently, the new doe took a mouthful of grass and started chewing. It was going to be a long winter.
