At least an hour passed by as the now named Shaggy and his brother Kevin spent their time playing in the backyard, mainly games of fetch. Shaggy was very excited to have someone to play with like this and all the while was kept very active by his excitement. Plus, being able to take in all these new scents and sights was amazing. It was amazing to see things from an entirely new perspective from his old life.
For a moment, Shaggy paused in his actions and stood there as he processed that thought. Had he had a life before this...?
However, the thought was quickly distracted when Kevin soon started to feel his stomach growling and it would be a while before his mom and dad got home so he felt a snack was well justified. Running for the backdoor, Kevin called out, "Here Shaggy! Come on inside and we'll have a snack."
WOOF! barked Shaggy contently as he raced for the back door to join his newfound friend... or was the term brother? Suddenly, Shaggy felt himself experiencing a daze and his head felt swimmy. He began to whimper and stagger as he made his way into the kitchen. Kevin, noticing this, became very concerned and kneeled down to pet the sheepdog's head. "What's the matter boy?"
As he did this, the medallion fell out of Kevin's pocket and hit the kitchen floor. At the same time, the clock chimed the current hour. Kevin turned his gaze to the clock for a moment and commented, "Hmmmm... Jared should have been home by now. I wonder where he is."
The name ran through Shaggy's head continuously, like a record stuck on repeat. Jared Jared Jared Jared Jared Jared...
If barks could be translated, Shaggy's would have been interpreted as WAIT! It was all coming back to him now. HE was JARED!!! As the realization hit him, so did the shocking factor of how powerful his canine instincts were. If he didn't act soon, who was to tell what might happen to him from there on out. He wasn't going to abandon his personality or his humanity so easily but was he to do.
That's when Jared saw the medallion laying in front of him. Quickly snatching it up in his mouth, Jared bolted out of the kitchen and ran upstairs. Kevin called out after him under his new pet name but Jared blocked it out by pretending he was hearing music. The canine instincts fought for him to go back but Jared would not have it. The panic had given his former human side an adrenaline rush that would not give in and would stay persistent. He just had to get back to normal.
Kevin chased after him but it was too late by then. Jared ran into his room and pushed the door closed. He then reached his paw up and pushed in the lock so Kevin could not get inside the room and stop him.
'Ok, now what do I do?!?!' Jared's mind panicked. That's when it occured to him. His clothes! He had to slip back into his clothes and think that he could find a use for them, just like he did with the collar. Quickly acting on this notion, Jared fought to slip himself into his very baggy clothes and thought to himself. 'I could probably find a good use for these, particularly if I was human.'
A moment passed and Jared could hear Kevin banging and kicking at the door, trying to force it open. The now sheepdog Jared started to worry that his plan would not be successful. That was until he let out a yelp of pain and dropped the medallion when he felt his bones expanding and reforming once more. He howled in agony as his muzzle contracted as well as his docked tail. Soon the howls melded into human screams as his body expanded into a human figure once more and all the shaggy fur retracted.
Panting from the immense pain, Jared still laid on the floor and curled up in a ball. He was very sore but relieved that he was back to his human form. However, he was still wearing the stupid collar. He reached his arms up, wincing in pain and removed it. All the while, Kevin was screaming in alarm and panic on the other side. "JARED!!! JARED ARE YOU IN THERE?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO SHAGGY?!?! ARE YOU HURTING MY DOG!!!???"
"I WAS THE DOG DAMNIT!" Jared screamed out at Kevin as he pocketed the medallion and used the bed to prop himself up. He kept letting out gasps and quick yells of pain but pushed himself up into a standing position once more. 'The wonders of standing on two legs again...'
Limping towards his bedroom door, trying his best to not cry out in pain each time he moved, he made his way to open the door now that Kevin had fallen silent.
