Hannah stood there waiting, wondering if there would ever be a buck for her, one who was open and honest and not like the sleazy frat boy bucks and midlife crisis bucks, most of whom were over in the meadow off to the west locking antlers because they generally didn't have anything better to do.
Then she saw another of them, a magnificent ten point buck, who strode with confidence, but cautiously, and looked in fact rather lost. "Um, excuse me," he said slowly in a deep rumble. "You know..."
"Know where we are?" finished Hannah. "We're in the transformation park. Did you just get transformed?"
"Well, yes, I guess so," the buck said. He looked down at himself. "This form is all wrong though. I'm having a real trouble getting used to it."
Hannah's heart leapt. "You pressed the 'random' button?" The buck nodded. "The same thing happened with me. I used to be named Harry, but now I'm Hannah. Many people are confused when they get a different gender. I run a support group for people to get used to their new sex and--"
The buck snorted. "You used to be a guy?"
"Yes," said Hannah, somewhat taken aback. "Didn't you say you hit the 'random' button?"
"Yeah," said the buck, "but I'm still a guy--actually, I think I'm a pretty studly guy now--but this body's all wrong. My name's Leo and I've always thought of myself as more of a cat." He reached up and touched his antlers. "And these damn things, they always keep getting caught in tree branches."
"Oh..." said Hannah, "so you're not...looking for a nice doe?"
Leo looked at her like she was from Mars. "Uh, no offense, but no. There was this really hot mountain lion babe I ran into, but she's only into mountain lions and you can see that I'm not--though I really should have picked that--and on top of that I think she's a lesbian." He looked at her sadly. "And it's kind of crazy, but this form is making me incredibly horny. You said you've been here a while--do you know any cat-girls who are really into deer guys?"
"But," said Hannah. "But you're a buck..."
"And?" asked Leo. "I'm an anthropomorphic deer dude who likes cat girls. How is that any weirder than anything else here?"
Hannah thought. "Well, you could come to the meeting tonight..." After all, they had plenty of people who were having trouble adjusting to their new gender, and finally she realized what was odd with Leo: It wasn't that he was a man who was walking like a woman but he was an herbivore who moved like a predator.
