"My name is Romi," she says. "Romi Keio. Listen, I heard what you were telling the bartender." You try to ask her exactly what you did say, but your alcohol-sodden tongue is too slow, and she continues. "I'm a witch. Or a witch-in-training, rather. What you asked is well within my abilities, though. And you did break the curse I came to try and break, when I couldn't. So...I'm going to let you have what you asked for. I can't have you look like me, for fear of confusion, but I'll give you everything else. But...I gotta go. Thank you ever so much for your selflessness."
Suddenly remember what you said you wanted, and you try to explain that really you just wanted off the merry-go-round, but Romi has already gotten up and ruun off. She turns and waves goodbye in an unusual fashion.
Despondent, you turn away. Of course, she's just a kid, pretending to be a witch. It was nice of her to offer, but you know that even if that's what you wanted, she couldn't give it to you.
But as you look glumly down at your feet, you realize that she has. For you too are a twelve-year-old girl. Scrambling over to a mirrored signboard, you stare at your reflection. Your hair is golden-brown and hangs about halfway down your back. Your face is soft and fine-featured; your eyes have changed from brown to a deep blue. Your arms and legs are slender and delicate, and your body is just beginning to show signs of a figure. You're wearing a knee-length denim skirt and a crisply-pressed white blouse; underneath, you're wearing frill-less white panties, and your just-budding breasts are unneccessarily supported by a training bra. On your legs you're wearing long white socks, and on your feet are black leather pennyloafers.
A smiling red-faced walks up behind you and puts his hand on your shoulder. "Don't worry, Alice, m'girl," he says. "You look just as lovely as your mother did when she was your age. But c'mon,, Mom says she wants to get on home."
As he leads off toward the entrance, you realize that Romi did give you what you asked for; you do have a new life, as Alice, this couple's twelve-year-old daughter.
