"Uhhh, actually, father, I'm not really a religious man," you say, trying to wrap your head around this whole scenario.
"Not religious?" he asks you, arching an eyebrow, "Well, now's a perfect time to find God." He strides confidently toward you, smiling warmly.
"Look, do you have a phone here?" You ask, hoping he'll say yes.
"No, we haven't had a need for phones in some time, son," he says, now right near you.
"Uhh, can I get a ride back to town?" you try to keep the quivering tone out of your voice, but it's hard. You're genuinely bothered by all of this. The priest seems so calm, and vaguely sinister. Perhaps it's your imagination, but it all seems so out of place, as though his kindness is merely a veneer.
"The service will be starting soon," the priest says, "We'll talk about taking you back to town afterward. You should really stay; it would do you good."
A pair of nuns appear in the sanctuary now, emerging from side doors near the back of the altar. Funny- the church didn't look quite so big when you were on the outside of it; it really looked like little more than the sanctuary could be concealed inside.
The nuns are dressed in the traditional habit, long loose fitting black robes with deep set hoods concealing most of their features. They walk slowly, their heads bowed, until they flank the priest. You catch a glimpse of their faces, and are shocked to find them youthful and generally attractive, a stark contrast to the weathered features of the priest.
You realize that now might be your best chance of escape. At the same time, you might simply be frazzled and paranoid, and running into the unknown might be the worst thing you could do.
"My son," said the priest, "I have found that the majority of athiests and agnostics in the world are such because they have never felt the touch of God in their lives. I assure you, if you stay for our service, you will experience wonder, and know the touch of God."
"Won't you please stay?" asked the nuns in unison.
