In what could only be described as record time, Deirdre saw the red and blue bubble lights arrive in her driveway a couple of minutes later.
She stayed low, still huddled behind her couch for safety's sake, waiting for the police to knock on the door and tell her everything was okay.
"Hey!" she heard one of them yell, "Get the fuck on the ground!"
There were sounds of a struggle, and she could hear indistinct yelling between at least two, if not three people. She heard a car door slam, and the lights pulled away. Seconds later, there was another knock on the door.
"Ma'am?" came a female voice, "Ma'am, are you safe? This is the Lupine Falls police department. Please open up."
She walked to the door, still shaken, peeking through the peephole. A slightly short, slightly stocky brunette in a police uniform stood rather impatiently waiting on her to open it.
She opened the door hesitantly, still worried about the lunatic knocking on her door. "Uh, hi, yeah...I'm...I'm unharmed."
"I'm Officer Irene Heywood," the woman said, "I just need to get a statement from you and tie up a few loose ends. May I come in, ma'am?"
