The Vials

Jess Arrives (more options)

The door knocked twenty minutes later at noon and Mary opened the door dressed in her housecoat.

“Hey, Mary!” Jess said pleasantly, carrying her purse under her arm.

“Come in, girl! Come in!” Mary urged, and closed and locked the door behind Jess. “I’m making us some eggs and toast, they’ll be a couple minutes yet.”

“Cool! Needless calories!” Jess laughed, and kicked off her sandals before sitting down on the living room couch. She was an attractive raven-haired girl of 23, Mary’s best friend, with full pouting lips, a gorgeous exotic look to her tanned face, and an ample chest.

“You want something to drink first?” Mary asked.

“Yeah, sure!” Jess replied. “How about some ice tea? It’s hot out today!”

“Sure! I’ll go fetch you a glass from the fridge. Get comfy, I’ll be right back.” Mary stepped into the other room nearly shaking with anticipation. Jess couldn’t have suspected or even have guessed what was in store for her. God, was she really doing this?

With a slow deliberate movement Mary picked up the box of vials from the floor and set them on the kitchen table. She pressed the button and the box sprang open, revealing all the potions. Mary took a deep breath and then exhaled, calming herself.

She walked over to the cupboard and pulled out a tall empty glass, walked back to the table and retrieved a single vial from the box. She gulped and took another deep breath, sweat beading down her brow, and uncorked the vial.

She raised it to her nose and took a deep whiff of it, finding a sweet pleasant aroma. With that, Mary grinned madly as she poured the entire vial into the empty glass, corked it, and set it back in the box. The vial filled itself back up to full on it’s own.

“Hey! Hurry up in there!” Jess called teasingly with a giggle. “I’m getting dry!”

“Coming!” Mary hollered back, opening the fridge, grabbing the pitcher of ice tea, and pouring it into the glass. She took a look at the open box of vials on the table and took a moment to again breathe deep and calm her nerves. The picture on the vial promised something wonderful to come.

Mary opened her eyes, collected her wits, picked up the glass of ice tea, and carried it into the living room to Jess.
