This ought to be good...

added 16 years ago A BM

Wandering into the Zoo, his eye caught the elephants. Fond memories of Babar stirring in him, he decided that they will be the first to be changed. Making sure no one else was watching, he took careful aim and fires the Morphomax.

A loud bang and a large dust cloud erupted, drawing the eyes of a zookeeper to Richard. While he managed to hide the device quickly enough for him not to see anything, Richard decided it was best to slink away for the moment.

Once he's a safe distance, Richard checked the manual of the device, looking for an explaination. It appeared that bangs and dust clouds happened when the Morphomax was set to "Instant Cartoon Style Poof Changes", which in this case it was. Annoyed he mis-set the the time meaning he missed the change, he decides to make the most of it and head back to see his handiwork.

By now, a large crowd had gathered, so Richard was in no danger of being questioned. At the front were half a dozen Zookeepers, looking at the elephant.

He (and this was apparent by his generous endowment) was now standing on two human-shaped feet, about as tall as he was when standing on four before. His head was a miniature replica of what it was before, placed on top of a thick, stocky body. If not for his large hands each missing a finger, the grey, leathery skin, or the tail that went to his ankles currently twitching irratibly, the body wouldn't have looked out of place on an overweight but muscular human.

"I say, Mr. Zookeeper!" called the Elephant in a deep, gruff, yet English accented voice, "Would it be possible to get something more palatable to eat than stale hay and warm water? Some clothes wouldn't go amiss, either." He finished, positioning his trunk to hide what he now considered his shame.

Laughing partly for joy at the success of his experiment, and at the absurdity of the situation, Richard decided that was enough for one day, in case the Zookeeper's suspicions were further aroused. He slipped through the crowd and headed for the exit and home.

Little did he know that a flaw in the Morphomax was about to alter his plans. The device worked on the concept of morphogenic fields. Each species has a different morphogenic field, and by careful application of radiation, the morphogenic field could be merged or replaced by that of another, causing the creature to change shape. In this case, the field of the elephant had a field of a human grafted onto it, and the gun had taken a sample of the elephant's field, for use with the chip to change species.

Unfortunately, when Richard fired the device, the firing mechanism couldn't properly cope with the power needed for such a speedy transformation, having not been tested properly. A crack no bigger than five or six atoms wide had developed in the Morphomax, and its morphogenic radiation was leaking very slowly. This wouldn't have been a problem to Richard if there was still only the human field, but now the Morphomax had a field of pachydermic proportions, and it was determined to get out there and do its job.

How this would affect Richard and those around him remained to be seen...
