"Watch." said Rob, crouching over the ground. She had become confident about her ability to turn pebbles into bugs in the days since the trick had first worked. Now she did it again to show it to her friend.
"Wow." said Brandon, picking up the bug with his claws. "That's really cool. Can you do it with big rocks?"
"I don't know. So far I've been doing it with little rocks. I guess I could try a big rock."
"How about that one?"
"Sure." Rob concentrated on turning a nearby boulder into an insect of some sort. The strain was much greater than it had been when turning pebbles into bugs. But she felt the rock's inmost essence opening to her, accepting transformation.
A sheen came from what the two young foxes could see of the boulder, and its lumpy, uneven surface transformed into two flat planes, joined at a forty-five degree angle. The end of the rock closest to Rob and Brandon developed into a head, and two dark spots became eyes. Antennae shot from the head, and legs grew from the bottom. The boulder was now a giant moth.
"Wow, that's really something." said Brandon. The moth took flight towards the two. It took a second for them to realize the danger they were in, and in that second the moth took Brandon, and began to fly away.
Rob screamed.
