"Jake!" said Jessica in astonishment as Jake reached out and selected a cloth diaper from the assortment of clothes.
"What, what?" he said defensivley. "He's five years old and it seems like he doesn't even remember being older anyway. Surely a little more can't hurt...don't you want to see the self proclaimed king of cool in diapers?" Jessica had to grin at this, but she still wasn't sure.
"Hmm...but..." she beagn.
"But nothing!" snapped Jake, turning towards little Matt with the diaper. Matt's eyes went wide with horror. It was clear Matt knew the implications of the scene and was pretty sure what was coming next.
"No! Me no need diaper, me big boy!" he clutched tightly onto the medallion and backed away from Jake.
"I'm not going to put the diaper on you, Matt!" said Jake. "Not yet, anyway," he muttered to himself, but little Matt looked scared. He turned and bolted out the door. Luckily he only had little legs.
"I hope you never have kids, Jake," said Jessica as she strolled after the two. "You certainly don't have paternal instincts."
Even on his childish legs Matt was still ahead of Jake as they ran down the corridor. Jake would be in trouble if anyone saw this incident. In a last ditch effort he chucked the diaper at Matt. By amazing coincidence, Matt caught it...and immediatley recoiled from it, dropping the Medallion with it onto the floor. Jake hurried up to Matt and grabbed him. Matt squirmed in pain.
"Me big boy!" he wailed.
"I know!" said Jake as he retrieved the diaper from the floor. "Now, where's that medallion you had, big boy?" He felt something in his hand other than the diaper. He slowly looked at what it was, knowing it was only a matter of time now. A matter of time before time started to go backwards for him. The medallion looked back at him innocently from the his hand, partially hidden in the diaper.
Jessica appeared. Perfect timing, she thought as she looked a Jake staring at the medallion he was holding with the diaper entangled with it.
"This looks like an 'Uh-oh!' moment to me," said Jessica blandly.
"No..." moanded Jake as he felt his body start to tingle. "No!" Jessica ignored him and looked at Matt.
"Well, it looks like you're going to be a big boy after all, Matt. Relative to Jake here, anyway." She sighed. "It's just one problem after another for me, isn't it? Any minute now Mr Perkins will be here, I expect." As if on cue, ominous footsteps were heard...
