John wanted to dress for breakfast, but then remembered their luggage was still somewhere off in Toon World running around with a mind of it’s own. They had bought the costumes with that in mind. John remembered how dearly he had wanted to fit in with the rest of the painted and cell shaded world, to be ‘animated’ like everything else here, to be a part of it. He wasn’t disgusted with his human skin or appearance, he just wanted to embrace this world. Totally. Utterly. Oy. He wondered if this place somehow effected your thinking the longer you were here. He heard how everything in this place was supposed to be temporary, that was the whole safety feature of this place. But did that apply only to the people who came back? John thought how he had only seen normal humans being affected by cartoon rules of cause and effect when he and Carrie had first shown up. But soon after they had encountered certified bona fide cell shaded anthro animals and comic characters, with branches leading off into the many different forms of animated art humans had so far expressed in their various histories. He wondered if there was a place in toon world where things appeared as Japanese ink drawings opposed to anime. It would make a certain amount of sense. He wondered, the longer someone stayed here, were they assimilated more into this reality until they ceased to exist in the real world and gained a history in this fictional one becoming ideas? John shook his head, he was scaring himself, he was being paranoid, wasn’t he?
Left with little choice, and not wanting to disturb his wife, he left the wedding suit in the bathrobe and sneaked down the stairs, making noises he couldn’t even identify, all of them creepy and unsettling however.
He came to the hotel foyer, as dark and bent out of shape as yesterday, nothing blinked an eye at seeing him in his bathrobe, he almost wished they did blink, seeing all those paintings watching him and seeing the armors slowly turning their heads following him.
Thankfully the food displayed, while strange, was not disgusting, as he had feared. Mostly. There was pumpkin pie, Coffee, Corn; right along side monkey brains for zombies. Red stuff for vampires. Very raw meat for werewolves.
