I never trusted those shady circus games...

added 15 years ago O

You wander over to one of the game stands, one of those dunking booths, where you shoot at a target to drop someone into a vat to win a prize. This one's vat is ridiculously wide given its purpose (probably a solid seven foot radius to it) and made of a metal coated with rust, clearly being quite old, and has been covered so that you can't look inside. The chair itself, attached to a backboard stationed directly behind the vat, has the same brightly-colored latex highlights as the rest of the circus, but there's no one sitting in it. Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be an actual target for you to fire at, but you figure there has to be something to it. As for the stand itself, there's an array of prizes on its back wall and a counter on which rests a cash register (undoubtedly for holding the money of those who play this game) and a small bell. Even though you realize the futility in doing so given the fact that the circus is apparently empty, you give the bell a single ring.

"Hello!" You jump a bit as a man seems to pop up from behind the counter of the stand, seemingly materializing out of nowhere. "Maybe you'd like to give the game a try?"

"Actually, I'd-"

"Nonsense," the strange vendor says as he cuts you off, "you should really give this game a chance! Besides, I only talk to PAYING customers! Come on, just one dollar for a game!"

Since you don't seem to have much choice in the matter, you fish through your pockets for a stray dollar and then put it down on the counter. "Great, thank you very much! Now, if you'll just follow me..." The man leads you to a small flight of steps leading up to the chair over the vat, and then gestures for you to have a seat. You don't feel too comfortable going through this whole rigmarole, but it's still the only way you'll get help out of this guy, so you reluctantly take a seat. "Now then, let's explain the rules, shall we?" Suddenly, you feel the chair give a lurch as a metal bar attached to it begins to extend. Your first urge is to jump off, but as you prepare to do so the vat's covering slides away, quickly unveiling the large pool of cherry-red latex contained within it. "To win the game, all you've got to do is get out of the chair without falling into the pool and make your way back to the stand. Pull it off and you'll win yourself a fabulous prize!" You look side to side, hoping for any way to escape, but nothing short of diving into that pool seems practical. Even the bar your chair is held by, though apparently quite capable of holding your weight, is far too thin to make for a safe escape. "Oh, and I wouldn't sit around for too long." Without warning, the chair lurches downwards, stopping about half a foot lower than it had previously been and leaving about as much space between your feet and the pool. "Take too long, and you'll get dunked and lose the game. So, I'll see you around buddy! Good luck!" With that, the vendor disappears back into his stand, leaving you to figure out some way out of this mess.
