By the time John and Carrie got down to the lobby, it was filled with guests, most of whom had seen the broadcast. Apparently it hadn't mattered which station the channel was on, they all were jammed by the signal.
The hotel manager was trying to keep order among the concerned, and somewhat frightened guests. "Ladies and gentlemen, please calm down," he said, "There's nothing to worry about. I'm sure what just happened was simply a prank. I can assure you that none of you are in any danger whatsoever. There is no revolution going on in Toonworld."
"So that was just someone's idea of a joke?" came a voice.
"I'm sure it was, yes," replied the manager, waving his hands in grand gestures, "So everyone, just go back to your rooms, or get on with your plans. Hiding away won't accomplish anything, and neither will ending your vacation early. As a gesture of our profound apologies, room service will be complementary for the next 24 hours. Please just tip the employees accordingly. Thank you." He wiped his brow with a handkerchief, mopping the nervous sweat away.
The crowd had calmed, and John felt quite at ease, much like the rest of the crowd. That was when a robed figure entered through the front door. John couldn't tell anything about them they were so enveloped in the garment, their face obscured completely by its cowl. Most of the crowd had turned to go back to their rooms, though a few were staring, puzzled at the figure. "What the hell is that?" John said to Carrie, just as he saw the twinkle of a small metal object in the figure's hand...a dog whistle.
The figure lifted the whistle under the hood, and John knew that this would be the moment where they found if it was all a lie or not...
