Summer Fun
"The long summer vacation is just about over. Josh says to his friend.
"Yep. And in three weeks school starts" Replies Tom.
"This year I will be able to drive my own car to school instead of taking the bus." Josh says.
"Have you gotten your drivers license yet?"
"Not yet. I’ve had this learners permit all summer." Josh says. "As soon as he gets home from work Dad's going to take me to get the real thing."
"Man, we gotta celebrate."
"What do you have in mind?" Josh asks.
"Since we only have a few weeks of freedom left. " Tom says pausing for a moment. "How about an old fashion beach party."
Josh replies "Sounds great but won't all the public beaches be crowded?"
"I saw a flyer, at the corner store, for a beach nearby that's suppose to be the 'IN' spot these days." Said Tom. " It just reopened after a major beach reclamation project. So it shouldn't be that crowded"
"Ok, let's start calling all our friends and start planning the party.” Josh replied. “This would probably be our last time to stay out late.”
“We still have weeks before school starts.”
“Well Dan just told me there was a rumor going around town that the school board hired a new coach.”
“What happened to Coach Riley?”
“You didn’t hear? He’s retiring at the end of this year. He’s only staying long enough for his replacement to get here. It seems the new coach can’t be here until after school starts.”
“I liked Coach Riley. He’s the one that got me on the team last year. What did Dan hear about the new coach?”
“He heard that his training methods were tough but he won games.” Tom added. “Dan did some checking on the new coach. He found out that the new coach is known for letting his players slack on their training.”
“Since this may be our last big party of the summer than let’s get the ball rolling. We have some calls to make.”
After twenty minutes and a half dozen text messages later the party was on. Most of their friends had seen the same flier around neighborhood. Not all of their teammate knew of the beach but they thought it was a great way to end the summer. So they all made plans to meet as a group at a place that they knew. They all met at the Interstate rest area and started making plans. The date for the party was set for the following weekend.
