Right in front of them was a massive roller coaster. They leaned back in awe of its height and dizzying spirals. They looked at each other and nodded in approval, but first finished their beers. Tossing their glasses to the ground, they ran to the entrance to the ride.
The line was very short and Zack and Ron got a great seat close to the front. “Here we go,” Zack yells as the ride climbs the first hill. Neither of them had ever been thrown about so much on a ride. The spins and drops and turns were unlike anything they’d experienced at an amusement park. When it finally came to a stop, everyone was nearly to dizzy to stand. The boys all lumbered off the ride grabbing hold of railings. “Oh man, oh man,” Ron leans over a railing and pukes, Zack just laughs.
Ron catches his breath a moment. “I don’t think I’ll do that again today,” Ron gasps trying to make light of the situation. “Well, I’ll tell you what. We’ll go on some of the little kid rides to make you feel better,” Zack pats him on the back condescendingly.
They walk around the park a while longer checking out the various games. They were all automated and just rewarded boys with more beer, despite the beer being available pretty much all over. “Hey, you ready for another?” Zack asks getting himself another glass full. Ron just shakes his head and holds his stomach. Zack shrugs and gulps his glass down, and then another, and another.
He smacks his lips in satisfaction, “Okay, so, where to wussy?” Ron looks around and points to another, smaller ride.
They ride the cheesy tilting rides and smaller rides for a while, but Zack just yawns. “Boring.” They exit back to the boardwalk and stand in the crowd. “Come on Ron, we need to do something more exciting,” Zack shakes Ron with encouragement, “look, the sun’s about to set and we have to leave in the morning.”
Ron looks to the horizon as the sun starts to disappear.
