Sam and Jake scurry off the boat along with all the other boys and pass through the large arches leading into the amusement park. There were so many rides to choose from, there were no lines for any of them. The ones that filled up and started, boys just went on to the next. Stands full of food kept warm and drinks kept cold were quickly cleared, but continuously filled by machine. The older teens and young college students flocked to the beer and cigarettes. The younger crowd went for the candy and junk food.
Through the crowd walked several men in dark green uniforms. The looked around and seemed watchful over everything that was going on. Sam and Jake bumped into one as they ran toward the rides. “Hey there young lads, you thirsty?” The Uniformed Man said. “Not yet, we’re gonna hit some of the rides first,” Jake responds. “Well, have fun, but don’t forget that it’s all free and for you to enjoy.”
Jake and Sam keep walking toward one of the massive roller coasters. “That was weird, are they security,” Sam asks. Jake doesn’t seem interested as he looks up at the ride as it roars passed them, “Did you see that, that ride has like five loops in it.” Jake continues to move toward the ride as Sam looks over at one of the beer stands and sees Lewis and his cronies drowning themselves and pushing the crowd back.
Jake and Sam board the first car and are rocketed off at a dizzying speed. They yell and cheer as the ride twists and turns and finally stops. The boys all exit the ride and attempt to walk a straight line back to the boardwalk.
“God, that ride was…” Sam starts, “Yeah,” Jake finishes. They look back at the crowd moving around the park. “I’m getting pretty thirsty after all, what about you?” Jake gestures over the line for beer.
Sam and Jake grab some large plastic cups from a dispenser at the beginning of the line, if you can call it a line. So many boys just push their way through, the ones who wait finally just get fed up and do the same. They fill their glasses to over flowing and move out of the way of the crowd.
“So… Here’s to us,” Jake toasts and they tap glasses. They boys swig back the beer and drink it down till their glasses are empty. Sam gasps and coughs a little bit, “wow, that’s really strong.” Jake agrees and then both boys are quiet for a moment. “Do you feel a little weird?” Sam asks. “Yeah, but good… like… like this is gonna be the best night ever!”
Sam and Jake run back to the beer stand for a refill.
