Another full cup and then empty in a few seconds. Sam and Jake catch their breath after having drunk the beer so fast. “It’s like it melts your troubles all away, I just don’t care about school, or going home,” Jake laughs. “Yeah, school’s dumb and stupid, right?” Sam sputters gasping for air still, “what now?” Jake looks up and sees the ride of rides and points it out to Sam. They both chime in unison, “Tilterwhirl!”
The Tilterwhirl spins the boys around so fast they are sucked to the back of the car. Once again, the boys are sent spinning back onto the boardwalk. “This place sure does a number on your head,” Sam laughs. They stagger back toward the food area and star stuffing their faces, pushing younger kids out of the way for the best things.
After a few treats they start to feel the craving for more of the beer. “Man, I need a drink,” Sam groans. “On it,” Jake bolts to a nearly empty beer stand and brings them both back a cup. They toast each other and down the beer. They grimace hard and the strength, but then Sam drops his cup to the ground. His grimace continues for a moment as his ears grow slightly pointed. “Whoa,” Sam says, “are they make this stuff stronger?”
Jake manages to hold onto his cup as he grimaces, but a small bulge pushes at the back of his shorts. “I think so, cause people look funny,” Jake points to the crowd. Several boys have pointed ears, or bulges in the back of their pants. Some other boys have thickened lips and broadened noses.
“I think something’s going on,” Jake starts, but is suddenly confronted by a Uniformed Man. “No, boys, nothing’s going on. Here, have another beer.” The man hands them each another full cup and they boys don’t hesitate to accept.
The purse their lips and chug down the beer. They both grimace again. Sam’s ears start to get longer and grow a thin fuzz. Jake’s pants rip in the back as a small piece of flesh emerges from below his belt. “Feel better?” the Uniformed man asks. “Yeah, a lot better,” Sam says. “Me too,” Jake agrees. “Well, then, go on, have some fun, and don’t hold back.”
Jake and Sam laugh and take off back into the crowd of boys.
