You see through the clearing mist the figure of your girlfriend. To your relief, she is unharmed and, surprisingly, unchanged by the machine. She is exactly the same size as before.
She looks down at her body and then over at you. When it becomes clear to her that she hasn't changed, she frowns.
"Crap," she says, "What a rip off. I didn't change at all."
"Well, at least you're still in one piece," you say as you walk over to give her a hug. "This thing was damn scary when it was running. I was a bit worried about you in here."
She still appears upset. "We should get our money back. I mean, really. And I was so excited, too."
"I don't know," you say. "Maybe we should read the instructions before we go complaining to the management... like I was suggesting before you ran off to play with this thing."
She gives you a dirty look that you are all too familiar with seeing. It's that condescending look of hers that she saves for when you have been acting like a total jackass. She controls her temper in spite of the apparent fury she is feeling toward you and says slowly and calmly, "I didn't do anything wrong in there. The stupid machine just didn't work. Okay?"
"Okay," you say. "Let's go call the front desk or something."
The two of you walk out of the machine to go find a phone. Considering the size of the room, it looks like it might take a few minutes to locate it. But, just as you start to look around, your girlfriend says, "Whoa, head rush," and starts to stumble as if she's lost her balance. You catch her to save her from falling.
"I feel funny," she says and puts her hand up to her head. All of the worry you felt before comes flooding back. Just what the hell did that machine do to her?
"Let's sit you down." you say and walk her over to a sofa. She sits down on it and leans back.
"I'll go find you some water. Just sit tight," you say. You fill a cup in the bathroom and rush back to your girlfriend, but when you see her, you let the cup drop right out of your hand.
Your girlfriend is changing right before your eyes. She is becoming...
