You run down the court, stop, set, and shoot the ball. You don't see it go into the basket, because things have gone blurry all of a sudden. Colors are shifting around you. You feel your skin crawling -- literally.
The world settles down, and the first thing you can make out is a woman's voice. "-- we may be five and oh, but you don't get to the state finals if you can't execute the pick and roll correctly!"
Now that you can see again, you know the woman's voice belongs to Ms. Adams, the girls' basketball coach. You look at the girls standing around you in their T-shirts and shorts -- you recognize some of them and think that, uh-oh, you must have blacked out and ended up standing in the middle of girls' basketball practice. You start to slink away, but notice that your body feels "off," somehow, like some parts were moving that shouldn't, and some other parts weren't moving that should have been.
And then you realize that Ms. Adams is looking right at you. "Stacey Fox! Going somewhere?"
You start to protest, "Who's Stacey Fox --" And then you realize that your voice sounds about an octave too high, just as you look down and see the bumps on your chest that are pushing your T-shirt out a bit. You feel your knees go weak.
When you come to, you're looking up at the high ceiling of the gym, with Ms. Adams and the girls standing around you.
"Come on, give her some air," says Ms. Adams. "Stacey, are you okay?"
"I don't --" Your voice still sounds strange. You manage to sit up. "I think I'm okay. I just feel a little weird."
She kneels down next to you. "Well, you don't have to practice today if you don't want to." This is met with general grumbling from the rest of the girls. Ms. Adams silences them with, "Hey, next time any of you get 35 points in a game, then we'll talk about letting you skip practice once."
35 points in a game? You've never come near that in a junior varsity game, and you didn't think the entire girls' team had gotten that many points total this season. You're still not 100% sure what's going on, beyond the fact that the potion seems to have transformed you into a girl with a different name.
