The Ointment Store

Raijin answers the question for Mr. Yuan, "Oops!"

added by D 15 years ago O

"Ah," Yuan said sinisterly, as he selected an innocent looking white porcelain jar of a particularly nasty ointment. He looked around impatiently, "Where is that lazy Raijin? He only had to bring that ointment in from the loading dock."

Yuan climbed down the stepstool and shouted, "What's keeping you, Jap boy?" Then he bit his lip, he had wanted to maintain the facade of acceptance until Raijin was under his spell.

"Coming, Mr. Yuan!" Raijin shouted from the rear door. Beads could be heard rattling as Raijin passed through another doorway. Yuan's sharpeis barked and darted down the cooridor.

"Even my dogs like that infernal boy," snapped Yuan silently to himself.

"Whoa, down, boy, down, girl," commanded Raijin weakly.

The disdain for his granddaughter's choice in men seemed to grow like a newly born volcanic island.

"Man, these boxes are heavy," complained Raijin whose stomping feet suggested he was stumbling.

"Boxes!" screamed the old man, "I told you to bring one box at a time! Those ointment jars are very fragile!"

The sound of a body falling and breaking glass followed. Then after a moment of silence, Raijin's slurred voice could be heard saying, "Yech! I'm covered in this gook!"

Yuan clenched his fists and then suddenly relaxed and smiled. The dumb boy had solved Yuan's problem of how to get him to use the ointment. Oh, it was probably a bit more expensive than Yuan's plan would have been, due to the breakage. But it would probably be a lot faster, and there would be no blame on Yuan. It was all the clumsy boy's own fault. Yuan set the jar down and rubbed the palms of his hands together in anticipation.

Then feigning the countenance of concern, Yuan went through the beads leading to the back hallway and store room.

"Raijin, dear boy, are you allright?" he asked wondering which wonderful ointments would be doing their awful work.

The boy sat in a heap with broken boxes and jars and their contents splattered all over. He was wiping his tongue on the back of his hand trying to get the taste of some nasty ointment out of his mouth. Yuan carefully stepped back avoiding the greasy chemicals covering the floor and walls.

"You look okay, boy. I'll get you some towels, you made the mess, you clean it up." Yuan turned and grinned. He ducked into the store room and emerged wearing rubber gloves and handing a roll of paper towels and a black plastic trash bag to Raijin who was now standing and picking jar shards out of his body.

Raijin had foolishly been wearing only a tanktop, shorts and flip flops. Yuan had chastized him already for looking like he was dressed for the beach instead of a job. Now Yuan was pleased that so much skin had been directly exposed.

The front door bell rang. A customer had entered the shop. Yuan wondered as he sauntered back to his register just what ointment or ointments were doing their evil work on that fly in his ointment Raijin.
