"I know!" said Carrie as an idea hit her. She began to program the remote. "This is just the perfect thing to cause some havoc."
When she finished inputing her settings, she aimed the remote at little Jenny and fired.
Over by the fountain, Jenny felt a momentary tingle. She felt confused for a moment, but then she went back to trying to retrieve her doll from her big brother.
"Give her back," she pleaded. "Come on, Kenny."
"Nope," he said and chuckled as she once again tried to leap up to reach the doll. Though, this time he was a bit surprised at how high she was jumping now. If he didn't know any better, he would swear that she seemed bigger all of a sudden.
He pushed her back and said, "Tough luck, Sis. I'm older and bigger than you, and I get to tell you what to do."
For a moment, Jenny looked ready to cry, but then she took another look at her brother. He seemed smaller somehow. Normally she was just as tall as his chest, but now she seemed to be almost up to his chin.
Kenny noticed the change in their relative heights as well.
"Hey, what's going on here?" he asked. He could see her growing before his eyes, clothes and all. In a few seconds, the two of them were the same height.
"I'm... growing," said Jenny as she watched her older brother gradually become smaller than her.
Kenny took a few steps back. His 5-year-old sister was approaching 10 feet tall. He looked up at her with terrified eyes.
"This feels funny," she said.
All around the fountain, people where staring and muttering to each other as they watched the little girl growing into a giant. A crowd began to form, but the people kept their distance from the girl.
In less than a minute, Jenny had become a 40-foot-tall preschooler. She looked down at the crowd in wonder. It was as if she had been dropped into a whole world of doll people. The whole town seemed like one big doll house now.
"Jenny!" shouted her brother. "Are you all right?"
Jenny smiled as she noticed her brother beneath her. He too was little more than a doll person now. She crossed her arms in an authoritative way as she'd seen her mother do many times.
"Well, well," she said, gloating. "It looks like I'm the big one now. So, I get to tell you what to do."
Watching this all from her bench, Carrie smiled as she heard sirens approaching. "Havoc," she said to her hamster. "Just like I wanted."
Jenny giggled. It was a strange thing to hear a giant girl giggle, strange and terrifying. "Let's have some fun," Jenny said and reached for her helpless brother.
