Carrie tugged gently on John's arm, dragging him into the pet shop, "Lets go into the Pet Shop, John!"
John chuckled, following along, "Alright dear, looking for something?"
She looked around curiously, "Maybe I can find a cartoon puppy." He smiled.
John looked around the shop as well, it looked like your fairly average pet shop, except for the fact that all of the pets were different kinds of cartoon animals. Making his way deeper into the shop, John saw a curious sight. Lazily sitting behind the cash register was a cartoon husky. His ears perked up as John approached him.
"Ah, welcome to my pet shop, can I get you anything?" asked the husky helpfully.
"Umm, no, I'm just looking around." Replied John, scratching his head confused, "Umm... How can a dog run a pet shop? Won't someone confuse you for a pet?"
The shop keeper shook his head, "Nah, it's all in the eyes." He pointed up to his eyes. They were white circles with a black dot in them. "Arf, see how I've got white in my eye, like dinner plates? That's a person." He then padded over and pointed to a happily panting toon cat, "See Scratches here? He doesn't have any white, he's just got two black dots for eyes. Same with all of the other non-people cartoons here." He points to the tree outside, still mocking the fire hydrant. "See, they've both got dots for eyes. That clear everything up?"
"Umm... Yeah... I think so..." replied John, wandering off to another part of the shop.
This part of the shop didn't have too many pets, and most of the cages were empty. As John walked along, he noticed something sparkle in one of the cages.
"Hmm...? What's this...?" He walked into the rather large cage, which could easily fit his whole person. Bending down he discovered... a collar?
John tossed the collar around in his hands. It was a toon collar, black, and fairly non-descript. The part that had caught his eye was the shiny gold tag on it, which to John's disappointment was blank.
Suddenly, John got an idea to surprise Carrie. She wanted to play with a pet? Well, he was happy to oblige. Laughing a bit, John pulled a pen out of his pocket and wrote "John" on the collar's tag, and then pulled it up around his neck.
Tightening it, he couldn't help but laugh. "Man, Carrie's gonna get a kick out of this." He he straightened it out, he took a quick look at his reflection in the mirror opposite his cage. The toon collar was sitting firmly on his person, and looked fine. However, John quickly noticed something which made him nervous.
His eyes were a pair of black toon dots, not white in sight.
