"What if it's haunted?"
"What are you, five? It's a house, not a desecrated Indian burial ground!"
"Maybe it's both!"
"Would you two idiots both shut up?"
The four friends had stumble across the old, abandoned mansion weeks ago. It was an odd place, sitting alone in the middle of the woods, and no one ever seemed to visit. Even stranger, no one ever seemed to leave. The lights in the place never went out, but no one could be seen moving about the house. Whether it was abandoned and the power company had just never cut the power or it was owned by somebody who was just holding onto it to sell it later, it was definitely deserted... which is why it made a perfect spot for a nice little party, just the four of them. They'd brought more than enough booze and snacks to last through the night, and with an entire mansion at their disposal they were going to make it a night to remember.
"Look, maybe it's not haunted, but... I don't know, I just don't feel right going into someone else's house."
The youngest of the group, a 19-year-old named Tim, had been trying to convince the others to call it off all night. Tim was a timid and shy young man, one who often avoided risks at all costs, and this was something clearly reflected by his outer appearance, with everything from his small stature and frame to the short, frizzed brown hair topping his worried face screaming "coward".
"There's no one there, and you know it. Suck it up and be a man."
The group's second youngest, Rick, was Tim's elder by only a year. The two had been friends since early childhood, and the entire time Rick had always been the brash one, his adventurous spirit reflected by the flaming red mop of hair atop his pale and freckled head, and was often rushing into dangerous or even downright stupid situations (and dragging Tim right behind him). He'd dominated his less aggressive friend, and as a result could get Tim to do just about anything.
"Again, you guys need to shut up. I'm trying to listen and make sure there's no one home."
Sara was the eldest of the four, at 22 years. She was often more a thinker than a doer, and this tended to bite her back when quick action was needed. In this group, however, she was a necessity - without her to stand as a foil for Rick's often stupid ideas on how to get some quick "fun", Tim probably wouldn't be around to complain about going into that mansion in the first place. In fact, she'd saved Tim from a great many stupid plans, and over time this had caused the awkward youth to grow quite deeply in love with her (her gorgeous physique and flowing blond hair didn't hurt either), though he was far too shy to ever tell her.
The final member of the group, the 21 year old Stanley, mostly kept to himself. He rarely talked, which made it a wonder how he managed to get any friends at all, but the others were all extremely fond of him and enjoyed keeping him around. He was very kind when he did open up, but would often be ridiculed by Rick for his considerable lack of practical intelligence. In a word, he was an idiot, though you'd never be able to tell by looking at him - his thick, round-frame glasses, thin body, pale skin, and bowl-cut black hair all scream "geek".
"Can we just get going already?" Rick was getting impatient, and they had been waiting quite some time, so the foursome finally decided to make their way up to the mansion for a little nighttime fun. Little did they know that this place had already claimed one man just weeks earlier, and was more than prepared to take four more...
