Alex was also a lot smarter than the original Alex, even if she had hardly changed at all in any visible way. She concluded that she wouldn't be asked the question if it wasn't possible to give more than one answer. And since it was a yes or no question, the possible answers had to be yes or no.
Therefore, she could write down "no" without bothering to explain it. If that counted as a lie, then she'd never have been asked the question in the first place.
She waited to see what happened, but nothing did.
Question 15: If you were a girl....What size shoes would you wear? What type of shoes are you wearing?
Easy. Same as as a guy. She wrote "size 7" and "sneakers". And girls did wear sneakers.
Question 16: If you were a girl....what music would you be into?
Alex wondered if this one was another trick question. The earlier question about who she idolizes had been answered for her with boy bands. Would she have to pick a boy band's music?
But she didn't know any boy bands. There was no choice, then. "I like metal and regular rock music, including classic rock. I'm a bit into soundtracks too."
Fortunately, the note didn't complain.
There were a few more questions but none of them were any problem until she got to the last one.
She recalled that when Stephanie used it it said to pass on to the next person if she wanted to be happy. But obviously it couldn't be passing itself on to people forever. It would have to stop some time. Would it be now?
She read "Put this note where it is unlikely to be found for a while."
She went to the school library, and looked around for a stool. Pulling it over and standing on it, she reached a middle volume of an encyclopedia on the top shelf. It was older than the encyclopedia on the bottom shelf, so probably nobody would ever use it. She hid the note between the pages, put the book back, and stepped down. She found it hard to think about having been changed, but she thought about Stephanie's questions and her own questions, and she could recall the change. It was either because she had watched Stephanie, or because she had stayed close to her existence as a boy, but she could remember.
But remembering made her concerned. And it didn't mean her mind wasn't affected. She may have looked like she did before, but she still found herself eyeing boys without even thinking about it. And what was that about losing her virginity to her boyfriend? She couldn't have a boyfriend and a girlfriend at the same time. Well, she could, but it would be strange. She'd have to have the girlfriend now because she was wearing the underwear as a bet, but the boyfriend could possibly mean that she just had a boyfriend before but not any more. Maybe.
