Samantha blindly ruffled through the pages. She finally put a stubby little finger down to choose a page. Trish remained silent. Sam slowly opened one eye, dreading what she was about to see.
The page she picked had a giant "S" on it, with a cartoony picture of a skunk. Its long striped tail was curled around the lower part of the "S."
"Oh, no...," she sighed. "Please, don't make me a skunk."
Trish smiled broadly as she punched in commands on the remote. "Don't worry, I'm going to specifically tell it NOT to give you a spray gland. My sister is no stinker."
Sam was horrified at the thought. It didn't matter if she smelled revoltingly bad. Just LOOKING like a skunk was humiliating enough.
Trish replaced the book on the shelf and grabbed Sam's hand. Together they went into the girl's bathroom and found it mercifully empty.
"Pleeeease don't do this!" Sam protested once the door was closed. Without even pausing to warn Sam, Trish zapped her, and the transformation began.
This one happened rather swiftly. Sam's ears suddenly poked upward and stood out from her dark hair, looking rounder and wider. They were covered in a thick coating of black fur.
Next came the rest of the fur. A momentary tickling sensation erupted across her body, causing her to scratch herself furiously. The feeling died off quickly, and Sam could see in the bathroom mirror that her face and hands were covered in fur. It was mostly black fur, except for the area around her eyes, her cheeks, mouth and chin. A line of white fur went down the front of her neck and, presumably, her entire torso.
Her hair turned white at the roots, and the discoloration spread quickly all the way down to the tips, leaving her with voluminous snow-white hair down her back and a pair of white braids down her front.
Her black-furred hands grew thicker, turning into meaty paws with tiny little claws and only four fingers. From the feeling in her shoes, Sam could tell her feet had undergone a similar transformation.
Her face tingled as her jaw pushed out. Her nose turned black and leathery, forming into a short, cute muzzle. Her jaw was slightly agape, offering her a look at her new tiny-but-sharp teeth.
Her spine lurched her forward as a loud "Fwoomph!" heralded the arrival of her brand new tail. She saw it in the mirror as it shot out behind her, sticking straight up and curling at the tip. The distinctively skunk-like tail reached up higher than her head, and wider than her shoulders. It had two thick white stripes running its entire length, and its underside was white as well.
Entranced at the feelings the new appendage was giving her, Sam coaxed newly-formed muscles to curl the tail around so that she could hold it. She stroked its thick, bristly fur and cooed at the pleasure that flew up her spine.
"Feel good?" Trish asked. "I knew you wouldn't mind it too much."
"Just because I find it interesting doesn't mean I want to keep it for long," Sam told her. She stared at the skunk-girl in the mirror, half-terrified, half-amazed. Could she really stand going outside looking like this? Even if the remote made everyone out there accept her as being normal, she would know. Trish would know. It wasn't right, and yet, the allure of defying nature seemed almost irresistible.
