“I don’t know,” Jake answers. “Jake,” Dean starts, “you can either work for a day and make a little bit of money, or you can have the greatest day of your life and lose nothing.” Jake looks around at how much fun all the other boys are having. He nods, “yeah, Yeah!”
Dean smiles as Jake tears off his uniform and throws the hat into the air. They both just laugh and are about to run out into the crowd, but Jake stops. “Wait,” he says grabbing two mugs of beer, ”for the road.” Jake and Dean take long gulps from their mugs and run out into the streets.
They hit a slew of rides and attractions. Starting with the highest roller coaster down to the smallest and then back the other way. There was one ride that they were saving for last, the biggest and best coaster at the park, or so the sign said. All they could do was think about it, and it would be the last thing they’d do for the day. To distract themselves, they went through the different fun houses and then through Tobacco Row. A crowd of boys has gathered reach up into the air to grab hold of the shower of cigarettes coming from all over. Dean and Jake both reach up and grab a hand full and pocket them. They make their way to a long set of open flames where boys are lighting up. Both Dean and Jake light their cigarettes and take a few puffs.
The both immediately start coughing. They go into a fit and it takes them each a moment to compose themselves. Once they have their breath, they just look at each other and start laughing. “Wanna try that again?” Dean laughs. Jake nods and grabs another cigarette from his pocket. After a few more attempts, they have the breathing down and only cough occasionally.
“What do you want to do next?” Jake asks.
