Marie and Josh just stare at her hands as the skin that used to be her fingers starts to harden. “I hurt them real bad,” Marie groans, “look at them.” Josh crawls up closer to her. “See if you can get up,” he says. Marie plants her changing appendage down and picks her self up on to her knees. Once up right, her hands shift fully into hooves.
“NO NO NO,” Marie yells, and starts kicking again, “I don’t like this place, I don’t like it.” Josh tries to get close to her, but she kicks toward him, “you stay back, I don’t know you.” Josh tries to reason with her, “Marie, it’s me… um… J… Josh, my name is Josh.”
Marie calms down a bit, “Josh, you’re Josh. You don’t look like Josh with that face.” Josh is puzzled and then reaches up to his face. His nostrils have widened and grown out along with his lips. His neck had become thicker as well, to support the growing weight. “It’s me, Marie, see,” Josh holds out his hand and Marie crawls over and smells it. “Oh Josh, it is you, you smell like you.” She clomps over and rubs her face against his forming muzzle. They both enjoy the gentle contact and sigh. “What are we gonna do Josh, I’m scared,” Marie begins to sob.
“I don’t know, we should, um… we should not…not go more in,” Josh tries to explain. “You mean we should go more out?” Marie tries to explain back. Josh just nods as if the plan made sense and as if they knew which way was out. “Let’s go,” Josh gestures forward and the two crawl down a corridor and find…
