Jared intentionally fumbled with the clothes, trying to buy some time. She remember, dimly, that the amulet had some kind of time limit. She couldn't grab it and change right now because it wouldn't let her. That was one of the reasons that she was trapped as a doe in the first place.
That's when she spotted something in the grass a few feet away. An idea quickly formed, and she tried taking a step, intentionally falling hard to the ground a few feet away. "Ow!" she said loudly to hide the sound of the tags rattling.
James didn't see what she had done, but he came over quickly. "Are you okay, Mary?" he asked.
She nodded, trying to play as dumb as she dare. "I'm fine," she said.
He helped her up and she followed him obediently to the campsite that he talked about. It wasn't all that far away, but was definitely private.
She noticed that James didn't seem to realize that she could think as a human. When they got to the campsite, he dropped his back next to a small tent and smiled. "This is called a tent. Humans use them to sleep outside." His smile turned into a leer, "And for other things, too." Jared continued to play dumb and went inside when he motioned for it.
"You want anything?" he asked once she got in.
Jared looked blank, then said, "Water?" hopefully.
James nodded, then looked worried. "I need to run down to the stream to get some. Will you wait?"
"A doe always waits for her mate," she said.
James grabbed a canteen and took off. Jared waited until he cleared the treeline and reached over and opened the backback, pulling out the amulet. As a test, she tried it with a piece of James clothes and found it didn't work. She pulled the collar she had found and hit them both under a sleeping back.
Almost too fast, James was back. He practically jumped into the tent and handed her a canteen. "How's that?"
She took it and tentivly gulped it down. "Good," she said simply. At this point the leering young man almost seemed to be at a loss. Jared siezed the moment of his indescition. "Do you mate with so many clothes on?" she asked.
He smiled, "No, of course not." He quickly pulled off his clothes and tossed them aside.
Jared played dumb, "Can you help me take mine off?"
James reached over and started to take the T-shirt off of her. Jared took a gambled and pulled the amulet and collar from under the sleeping bag and put them against the young mans back gently.
The touch was all that was needed. Distracted by being pressed up against Jareds naked female body, he didn't realize that he was changing until it was far too late. Jared watched a sea of fur cover the young man even as his body shrank. "What are you doing... woof!"
Before either of them knew it, James was now a black labrador.
