You're too hungry to wait until you get home. If you don't eat now, you'd probably be too weak to even make it back. You head on over to a Chinese place, which looks to be as normal as anything you'd see in a typical food court. You order some Moo Goo Gai Pan and fried rice.
"Do you have a voucher?" the Chinese woman asks at the cash register.
You remember the vouchers you got when you came into the mall. You pull the booklet out of your backpack and find one for a free meal. That's a pretty nice bargain, you think to yourself.
"It comes with free fortune cookie," she says, handing you a fortune cookie wrapped in plastic. You drop it on your tray and thank her.
You find a small empty table and put down the tray. You put the backpack on the other seat, then sit down. Your head gets yanked back, and you realize you've sat on your hair. You blush at failing to realize how its length can get in the way sometimes. You pick up the silken strands and drape them across your lap as you sit down. Then you cover your lap with a napkin so that you don't get it messy.
The food tastes wonderful, and you fill up quickly. It's one of the best free meals you've ever had--THE best, if you don't count family dinners. Fully satisfied, you open the plastic holding the fortune cookie. It bursts open, eliciting an unexpected miniature display of fireworks. Pretty cool, you think.
You break open the cookie, half expecting more fireworks, and start to munch on it. Meanwhile, you remove the little slip of paper from the other half of the cookie. It has a bunch of "lucky numbers" printed on it.
Typical, you think to yourself, until you flip the paper over and read what's on the other side...
