Kyle Smith hopped on a single bare foot as he struggled to pull a long white sock up his left leg. He wore only underwear and a yellow and green shirt, his school colors, as he bounded through the large house.
"Martha!" he shouted. "Martha, have you seen my football jersey?" He glanced around the hall as he headed towards the kitchen. "Uh, and my other sock?"
"Martha, are you listening to me?"
The kitchen was empty.
"Shit!" He had forgotten it was Martha's day off. What did a maid need a day off for anyway? Like she had a life!
"Man, I swear to God, the world hates me sometimes," Kyle muttered as he began to search the room for his shoes. "And where are my pants, anyway?" He thought about it for a moment. Wouldn't the girls just love it if he went without them today? His frown became a smirk as he imagined all the high school girls staring at his bulge. There wasn't a girl alive at East Hampton who didn't want him.
The phone rang beside him. He was about to call out for Martha to answer it, then stopped himself, cursing again. "Shit." Then he picked it up, in case it was one of his friends, and answered, "Hello?"
"Is this Kyle Smith?"
"Duh! Who's this?" He didn't recognize the girl's voice, but it didn’t sound like anyone he'd ever date, let alone talk to.
"Jennifer Perkins," the voice answered. "Do you know who I am?"
"No! You sound like a total ditz!"
She tried to say something else, but he cut her off. "Look loser, I'm already late enough without you wasting more of my time, so get to the point, okay?"
"Actually, I just wanted to let you know that I'm the freshman you and your friends humiliated last week at school, before I ask you a question."
He laughed, remembering. "Yeah? And what's that?"
"Transform or Dare?"
Kyle’s heart froze in his chest. "W-what did you say?"
The line was cold. He could only hear faint breathing coming from the other end.
This couldn't be real, could it? Of course not! He didn't believe in bullshit. That was stupid. Stupid or not, though, one thing his friend told him rang through his mind, "If you don't choose one or the other in less then a minute, you have to take both!"
But that was all nonsense, wasn't it? Kyle glanced up at the clock. His minute was almost up. Panicked, he took a deep breath and said...
