CYOTF (Animal)

Innocent Bystander

added 14 years ago A

I had to fight every instinct not to fall to the grass and let the moonlight freely wash me away into the animal almost physically tearing a way from my skin.

Cassidy voice echoed behind me, "Hey, sweetie, you forgot your bag!"

My body stumbled into a sad semblance of a run, my clawed and swelling feet cramping inside useless sneakers. I needed to make it to make it to the college grove, the only maintained wooded area on the campus. It was small, mostly safe from intrusion. Students were not allowed in the area after dark.

Delirium set in as normally fluid changes were still fought off by force of will. Few students were out on campus in the night, and I desperately tried to avoid them on my stumbling beeline to the grove.

My heightened instincts were out of control, every conversation, smell, and noise flooding me. I could feel wind on my ears, knowing they had grown from under my hair increased my desperation. Fur had uncomfortably filled under my clothes, running up my shorts onto my tightening abs. As I stumbled down campus steps I knew the treeline of the grove waited just around the corner of the brick wall speeding past me.

The wolf began to completely take over me. My feet tumbled as the seams of my sneakers gave way on the last set of steps toward the grove. I kept moving forward after the last step into a soft wall, blind instinct snapping at the sudden interruption of my momentum. My fully furred fingers viciously pulled into the cloth of my T-shirt as I broke the treeline and forced myself to keep moving deep enough to embrace my transformation.

Cassidy quickly made her way down the steps. Rachel had disappeared around the corner, but Cassidy figured on catching up with her on the path to the union garage. Rachel had been moving surprisingly fast, but also like something was very wrong. Cassidy hoped the phone call Rachel dropped her bag over wasn't a tragedy.

As she cleared the steps, Cassidy had to almost spin to the right to avoid hitting a short-brown haired body right in her travel path.

"What the hell's the hurry tonight?!" Green eyes flashed right at Cassidy.

Cassidy paused with her hands up, "Hey, I'm sorry."

"Well, somebody should be," Cassidy noticed the petite Latino girl was holding her arm, "I think the other crazy bitch who ran into me bit my fucking arm!"
