Dave is your typical High School geek; smart, straight A's and a pair of glasses. Currently he is heading to what he hopes is football try-outs, hoping that by doing this, Dawson will leave him alone.
Today was the first day of school for Dave and being the new kid, plus a geek, didn't really help. It wasn't to long before he caught the attention of a older and meaner kid named Dawson, who'd been held back twice and was slowly working on his third time.
Since running into Dawson, Dave had been shoved into a locker, only to be helped out of the locker by a kid named Richie who when thanked, told him, "I don't want to incur the wrath of Dawson!" With that said, Richie took off down the hallway and Dave hadn't seen him all day since that first time.
Next, Dawson pushed him into the girl's locker room during gym class, screaming, "Surprise, freak! You're a lady!"
Blushing, Dave mumbled something to the girls, who were taken quite unaware by this intrusion, and made a hasty exit. The third time Dawson made his presence known was when he tried to stuff Dave head first into a garbage can.
This earned Dave a trip to the principals office when a teacher intervened and Dawson sweetly explained, "Just helping Dave here. For some reason he felt the need to climb into the garbage can."
The teacher sent Dawson to his next class and telling Dave what she thought of troublemakers, sent him to see Mr. Woodslade. In the office of the principal, he got a verbal undressing, telling him where people who cause trouble end up, that he should straighten up and fly straight and that if Dave is looking for attention, there's other ways to do it then running into the girl's locker room.
Dave tried to protest, but it went unheard and with a firm reprimand and the threat of detention if he continues to cause problems, he was sent to his next class.
Outside of Mr. Woodslade's office, he ran into Dawson. Dawson grinned, something that put Dave on edge, and held out his hand. Taking Dave's hand, he said, "No hard feelings. You're the new kid, so I got to hassle you. Here, to make it up, there having football try-outs. I'll sign you up and we can be on the same team, okay?"
Unsure, Dave thought this through and deciding that this was the best way to cooperate with Dawson, told him sure. Dawson nodded and asked for his last name. Giving it to him, Dawson replied, "I'll sign you up under the name of D. Sherman, alright?" Dave nodded and headed for his next class.
Now, after school, he heads for the football try-outs and sitting on the bleachers, he sees Dawson smirking. Upon seeing Dave, Dawson gives him a thumbs-up. Something about all this bothers Dave and it isn't until the girl's coach called out 'Ms. D. Sherman?" that Dave realizes he'd been signed up for the cheerleader try-outs. Hearing Dawson roar out with laughter, Dave slinks away.
"Stupid Dawson," he mutters as he crosses the field. Across the way, he can see the old gymnasium and curious, he decides to walk over to see what's inside.
It's just as he's about to cross the street, that he notices the amulet. Bending over to pick it up, he notes that it's cracked and figures it probably was run over by a bus. Printed upon it is the word 'Zulo'. Draping it around his neck, he crosses the street and enters.
The moment he does, a voice calls out, "You must be here for ballet try-outs. I'm Miss. Rosario. Please go into the locker room and change. You'll find the uniforms in the boxes. I haven't had time to sort them out, so please choose a purple one." And before he has time to register a word of protest, Dave's shown into the boy's locker room.
Wondering what he's got himself into, Dave looks about and notices several boxes. Unsure how to get out of this, he decides to go along. "After all, Ballet is also done by males," he reasons as he accidentally tips over a box and cursing at his own clumsiness, he begins to clean up the mess.
It happens while he is holding a pair of pink tights, still in the package marked 'Age Four'. The amulet slips out of his shirt and touches the tights. The moment it does, a flicker of static electricity jumps to his hand. Cursing, Dave drops the tights into the box. Wondering how dry the atmosphere is, he puts the box out of the way. Opening another box, he see several light purple body suits, tights, skirts and slippers. Seeing several still in the package, he selects one that fits him.
The moment he puts it on, his mind does something weird and suddenly he remembers begging his mom to be signed up for these classes. This bothers him, knowing he didn't really sign up, and putting his clothes in a locker, he heads out, hoping Dawson is still at football try-outs.
