Dave heads out to the main section of the gymnasium, feeling slightly ridiculous about the purple skirt that he's wearing, while his mind flip flops back and forth between wanting to be here because his mother signed him up or the fact that he came here because of a mean prank Dawson played on him.
It's all pushed to the side when Miss. Rosario calls class to order. First she take attendance and Dave's glad because he's not the only male taking this class and that she doesn't question him any further when she asks for his name and comments, "Not on the list, oh well," and scribbles a note. For the next hour he busies himself learning stretches and such basics such as putting on his slippers properly to the correct way to wash the uniform.
After being dismissed for the day, he grabs his clothes and as he's leaving, Miss. Rosario announces, "Next class this Saturday at four p.m."
Taking note, he pulls his coat on, drops the amulet around his neck and heads out. Dawson isn't anywhere about and Dave breathes a sigh of relief as he starts home, which is a very run down looking apartment complex on the edge of town.
There, he lets himself in, notes that his mother's not home and heads for his room. Dropping his backpack onto the floor, he lays down on the bed and with out thinking about it, cuddles up to a doll.
As he lays there, the doll hugged close to his body in a motherly fashion, he takes the amulet off and looks at it. Tracing the letters, he mutters, "Zulo," while he wishes that his mother could afford the computer that she'd been saying she would buy for the past two years. Sighing, he tosses the doll aside and standing, grabs his coat and heads down to the library.
Then it happened. It was just outside the library, he'd left the Amulet of Zulo - as he had started thinking of it - at home, when he saw a little girl dressed in a pink flowing dress, some type of princess costume he figures. The moment he sees her and thinks this, the thought, "Wish mommy would dress me like," enters his head.
Shaking his head, he asks himself, "What the hell. Mother would never dress me like that."
Suddenly he hears, "Mommy, will you play with me," being asked.
Dave knows the little girl has asked this, but he suddenly wants to play dress-up with her. Sighing, figuring that he'd best get out of here before he said or did something stupid, he began walking toward the mall, figuring that he would return in a half hour.
"What's wrong with me," Dave asks himself as he enters the nearest store in the mall. "Is it hormones, because I don't think I've ever acted like this before."
But he has no answer as he suddenly becomes aware that he'd wandered into the woman's section of a clothing store. And before he can stop himself, Dave begins selecting various outfits that he figures would not only look cute together, but also look great on him. As he heads to the dressing rooms, all he can think is, "Something is amiss here," and then he's lost in the excitement of trying on some new clothes.
