Both Jane and her granddaughter Laisa returned from Ruritania just a
while ago. But while Jane was somewhat glad to live in her old
hometown again, Laisa felt out of place. She did not know anyone
here, her English was rather bad and at school, she was often made
fun of for exactly that reason. While she was no eager Ruritanian
nationalist, Ruritania was her home. If she had her way, she would
have stayed even in the current economic crises in Ruritania. But of
course, her mother Jane and her father Jenek would not let her stay
there despite there only being a few months to her 18th birthday.
"Laisa, come on, mekisi'ta'il (hurry up), grandma is expecting us!"
Jane shouted to the young girl who was busy reading.
"Ji, namao'il hilat seki! My'ixunus'ta 'mesu'ta xe, my'va'ta tisaha
17." (Meh, cut me some slack! She won't die from not seeing me, She
didn't see me for 17 years) but she came to her mother.
Eventually, they both arrived at Jen's home. Jen told them about the
new game she bought and that she thought it was a good idea to play
together. Laisa looked as if she was hit by something heavy while
Jane complimented her mother for this charming idea. It is not the
case that Laisa is normally very glum and always annoyed, she just
was hit by a wave of homesickness. She liked playing with her friends
in Funa and realized how much she missed it and them. "So, you say,
this game, what is it?"
"It is called 'Game of change'" explained her grandmother.
"and hope?" asked her mother grinning from one ear to the other one.
Jen opened the box and arranged the contents: To her surprise, the
contents of the box, the board and the cards were labelled in
Ruritanian as well as in English. "I think we all need to select one
token for herself." She took the red one, Jane decided for the black
one and Laisa used the blue one. "and we need to decide for the order
in which we play." said Jen while reading from the
instructions. "Clockwise, highest number first?" after the nods of
the others, everyone threw the dice. Jane started, after that Laisa
and eventually Jen would have their turns.
